Issues that really matter in Pakistan

Beside the never solving issues of panama papers and mujhey kyoun nikala gaya (why am I disqualified), never ending quarrel between lion (shaer) and bat (balla) let think about the issues we can solve. These issues are seriously more important than this eternal cold war on our TV screens, mobile phones, laptops etc. Think for a once can we do anything to solve this matter? To end this matter? The answer is simple. No. then why shouldn’t we think about a matter in which we can contribute to our country those issues which we face every day but we don’t consider them important because our media is not highlighting or because our newspaper headlines is never occupied by that issue.

1. Shia-Sunni war

Almost everyone heard this sentence. The boy/girl is very talented, but is he Sunni? That girl is so pretty and innocent but she is not Shia! The girl who don’t bow in front of Allah like we do, is out of circle of religion Islam and will suffer in hell. We are the best Muslim, other will surely face hardships in hell. You want to disrepute someone’s lifelong hard work? Just volunteer on how you think he/she is a member of [insert unpopular belief]. In fact, just say the word Qadiani and watch the fireworks. If we can trash a Nobel Laureate for that crime, we can bury anyone alive. And if, unfortunately, the accused is not Ahmadi, then move on to mention Shia. No? Accused is a Sunni? OK, what type of Sunni? Touchdown! Now, you may proceed to nitpick till kingdom come. The accused is as good as convicted and gone. Think for a once, is he/she is a Shia according to his/her will. Or being Sunni is done according to your will? Every Muslim is busy in saying you are not Muslim, except non-Muslims who really calls us Muslim.

2. It’s a national tragedy but it happens

These words were spoken when APS slaughter happened, we heard these words when Kasur rape tapes came into light, when Malala Yousafzai is attacked, at the incident of Laal Masjid and at the time of bomb blast in Lal Shahbaz Qalandar shrine, it doesn't end here a whole list will be made whenever we listen these words. The question arises are you ready to hear these words for next couple of years, or maybe next decade. God knows for how much time, we have to tolerate these national tragedies. Is there no one to question about these questions?

3. Does Kashmir really matter to most Pakistanis?

Ask yourself, do you really feel sad for people of Kashmir? Do you ever think about the bloodshed in Kashmir? Does your response would be same if your province or another province would suffer? No. we only need a piece of land which we didn't get 70 years back. We just want a piece of land called Kashmir, not lives of Kashmiris neither their happiness nor their freedom.

4. Respect women- until they opine

Pakistani women are highly esteemed as mothers, daughters, sisters, wives as far as the proverbial respect goes. All these women performing all these roles are constantly fighting the pressures of a horribly misogynist societal mindset. Most women give in. They prefer to stand by their men since that is where the security blanket is coming from. In fact, it is these women that do the most harm. Pakistani women would do better if the misogynist women of our country took note of what the hell they’re up to! An opinionated woman is a threat. We just want our women to be nice, good girls who may only think/dream/say what the Master (father, husband, son, brother) approves of. Those who break these rules, those who are supported by men and women who help them break these rules have invited war. And they will be attacked fiercely.

5. Pedophilia is on the rise but it’s the women who need hijab

Without going to think about religious aspect of how much and why women are supposed to cover up. Instead, briefly touch upon what religion demands of men in terms of hijab. Men are ordered to control their urges. Men are ordered to lower their gaze. Men are ordered to respect women. A 14-year-old boy threw himself under the train after being humiliated by the police when he reported his rape. Should that boy have been in a burqa too to avoid rape? What about the boys in Kasur? And the 5-year old boy raped by the Imam inside his own mosque? This one is just too full of irony to be ever not be shocking. By the way, how sexual is a five-year-old anyway – regardless of gender? 80% of our women wear some form of a cover-up – chador, burqa, dupatta – so, exactly why is there emphasis on covering the women more and only women while the men continue to gloat indiscriminately? Truth is, none of this would make an iota of difference if the men of our society aren’t taught to behave themselves. The only cause for rape is the rapist.
There is a large list of things we should discuss, but only discussion matters nothing. We need to think about it and then act upon these issues. We should stop acting like a ping pong ball of shaer and balla. Think about real matters, which really matters.
