The Mood Conjecture

How often do you hear the words “moody” or “mood swings”? As simply and frequently as these terms are used, it clearly doesn’t do justice to the amount of complexity they hold but does cover up the actual nature of the modern society.
“Emotions, moods, impulses, ebb and flow with the tide of my life. Tidal waves, at times, in a bipolar mind.”
― H.G. Wells
I doubt that anyone reading this can say with absolute certainty that they don’t let their moods govern what they do or say. You might have a great deal of control over yourself but you can never truly escape the way you feel on the inside. At some point it is bound to come out, especially if the ones around you are perceptive. I acknowledge the graveness of this entity and although most of the time I am able to control my reactions, but being only human I can never deny that in the end our moods control us, they govern how we see the world. Take for example a person who is happy, in the illusion of their happiness they will point out only the good things in the world and the same goes for the illusion of sadness, only the depressive things. The truth being that none of these temporary thoughts really matter, all of it is just an illusion which you can control by keeping in mind the time limit of everything that happens and by learning to live in the moment. Leave behind everything you feel an oppressive connection with, only then you’ll be truly free.
Some might define moods in terms of hormone levels in the human body, which I wouldn’t dare to defy, because I know that an overdose of estrogen can make a perfectly well human go a-wall. I’d rather say that it’s partially true but the moods may or may not be the reflection of our desires. It can be mapped out like this, our moods affect our actions and our desires affect our moods and the loop keeps running till we screw up and have to take a break from life. Although the sad part, life rarely gives breaks and we end up staring at the sky saying phrases like, I just can’t catch a break, can I? or Why God why? We had a deal! (Reference for F.R.I.E.N.D.S fans).
One of the important things to keep in mind is that our moods are influenced by a lot of things. Like merely the absence of a single person can make you feel alone in a crowd and leave your mood dry as a cactus or merely watching an episode of your favorite show with a slice of Pizza and a bottle of coke in your hands can cheer you up. We go out when we’re in the mood or we just make up excuses, we get emotional when we’re in the mood or someone else’s opinion doesn’t even matter to us. What’s different is when we learn to let go of what we feel and start interpreting the feelings of others. Let go of your ego and go meet that friend you haven’t met with in a while, apologize to that one kid who you made fun of before just because you were in the mood of playing pranks. Learn to acknowledge the feelings of others without expecting the same in return, in my opinion that’s the true meaning of life, otherwise we are just civilized (air quotes) people who don’t want anything to do with others except pass the time and remain self-centered, moody and die one day without leaving their mark and be remembered as someone who served only himself.
